Where We Are Now

We landed this afternoon at Ely KOA Journey, pretty much right in the middle of Nevada, elevation, 6500 ft. This is just a stop-over for a night, but it really is a nice campground. We plan to drive around this after and check out the town.

Where to Next

From here we're heading north to Idaho. Our first stop is a place called Anderson Camp. We plan to spend a couple of days there so we can check out Shoshone Falls and what's left of Twin Falls

Cascade Locks KOA

This is another great campground that's conveniently close to home.  The campground offers RV, Tent sites, & Cabins.  It has a children's play area and a pool.  Unlike a lot of KOA campgrounds, Cascade Locks is very wooded so that you feel like you're camping and not just parking in a big lot.
The campground is located in the Columbia River Gorge with lots to see and do if you drive just a short distance from your camp.  We like to hike and found a trail that crossed the railroad tracks and eventually led to the Columbia River.  Not sure if we were on private property or not, but it was doable.  Speaking of railroad tracks, sites that are located on the north side of the campground are very close to them.  If you're not expecting it or are not used to a train 40' from your tent in the middle of the night it can be quite a shock.  We live next to the tracks on the other side of the river and get a train every twenty or thirty minutes.  So the train wasn't a big deal and only one came through the night we stayed.
The best part of the campground for me was the pancake breakfast.  It gave me a chance to sit down and share breakfast with other fellow campers.  The morning I was there, a nice older couple joined us.  They introduced themselves as "Patriots" from the great state of Texas.   The conversation was stimulating and I was introduced to quite a different way of viewing things.  It was all good!  I have my own opinions on things but I tend to share them with like-minded people and just listen intently to people with different views.  Hopefully in our travels we will meet them again and enjoy another pancake breakfast.
