Where We Are Now

We landed this afternoon at Ely KOA Journey, pretty much right in the middle of Nevada, elevation, 6500 ft. This is just a stop-over for a night, but it really is a nice campground. We plan to drive around this after and check out the town.

Where to Next

From here we're heading north to Idaho. Our first stop is a place called Anderson Camp. We plan to spend a couple of days there so we can check out Shoshone Falls and what's left of Twin Falls

Albany/Corvallis KOA Journey, Corvallis, OR

Our Visit

The Albany / Corvallis KOA campground has it good and bad points.  Our month there was ok.  The campground itself was nice enough with lots of pull-thru sites.  It is set up so that all the 50A full hookup sites were all located on the north end of the grounds and the non-septic and tent sites were on the south end of the grounds.

Albany Corvallis on the map burned

It works, I guess, but it did put all the full hook-up sites next to a very noisy highway also, a ways from the very poor wireless internet.  (I couldn't even begin to get the cable to work)  The other thing about KOA is that if you're camping by the week or month, you don't get the bonus points to earn discounts.  I know, that the longer stay discount is more than the bonus discount, but it does take away the incentive for us people who stay by the week or month to choose KOA.  We also found that the preferred sites were saved for the people paying the nightly rate.  So if you stay by the week, be prepared to be in the middle of pretty much a parking lot with grass strips that you are asked to keep water but never get mowed. (at least not during the month I was there)

Comments from other users were things like the really high rates to rent cabins.  If you're coming to Corvallis to stay for a game weekend and think that it's cheaper to camp than to get a hotel, it isn't.  The cost of the cabins was comparable to a one or two-star hotel and you have no bathroom and have to bring your own bedding.  The other comment that I heard most often, was the lack of friendliness of the staff.

On the plus side: The pool was nice, there was lots of room for pets to run outside the campground but on the property, and you could buy a dixie cup of vanilla ice cream for sixty cents!  (That tells you my priorities)  I would come back again, but probably not for an extended stay.

Visit the many wineries in Linn and Benton counties. You're within 5 miles of Oregon State University and all of its sporting and cultural events. Albany's Historic Carousel & Museum is just 5 miles away. Check out some of the 700-plus historic structures that date back to Albany's boom in the 1800s. Back at the campground, enjoy campfires all year and have fun in the outdoor heated pool. The Kamp K9 park is 4,000 square feet - right next to the entrance to this KOA's own nature trail. In July/August, enjoy berry picking or join in hula hoop contests and ice cream socials. The basketball court even has spectator seating. This campground is the perfect spot to begin your tour of covered bridges in Linn and Benton counties. Visit historic Thompson's Mills or travel to Mary's Peak for breathtaking mountain views.  Max pull thru: 70 feet. Your hosts: The Greig family.

Much rainfall in April and May.  Due to wet lawns, it is difficult to have short grass.  We mow seventeen acres.  If you are bothered by puddles or long grass, please find a different park.  We love our western Oregon green!
