Where We Are Now

We landed this afternoon at Ely KOA Journey, pretty much right in the middle of Nevada, elevation, 6500 ft. This is just a stop-over for a night, but it really is a nice campground. We plan to drive around this after and check out the town.

Where to Next

From here we're heading north to Idaho. Our first stop is a place called Anderson Camp. We plan to spend a couple of days there so we can check out Shoshone Falls and what's left of Twin Falls

My pipe bending worked great. Unfortunately, it changed the inside shape of the conduit in the curve and wouldn't work as planned. But it was a good thought.

This is the location that the campground put us in. It was at least 100' and a pull-thru. Sites along the river are saved for Colorado River Resort members

On my second visit to Emerald Cove, I left Jackie in Vegas, so I thought I'd work on some projects. This one involved running some 1 1/4" PVC and I needed to bend it.

Emerald Cove RV Resort, Earp, CA

Our Visit

We arrived at Emerald Cove on a Thursday afternoon and they put us in a fairly decent site, it had to be over 90’ feet. The campground offers back-in sites along the river (if you’re a member of Colorado River Resorts) and lots and lots of rental. You can rent anything from a small bumper pull to a large park model with covered decks running the length of the units. Overall the campground had a younger feel than a lot of other campgrounds that we’ve visited. Lots of people had ATV’s or boats.

Emerald Cove on the map burnedThere are a couple of pools and hot tubs with a ‘Tiki’ bar separating them. On weekends the bar featured Karaoke which was entertaining for a short while. There were a really good miniature golf course and a nine-hole pitch & put course across the street. Also, there were horseshoes and a basketball court that shared space with two pickleball courts. Unfortunately, the pickleball courts are not well kept and there is no fence around them, so chasing balls is a must. The campground is a mixture of paved roads and gravel sites, but it’s hard to tell where the pavement ends and the gravel begins. The sites along the water as well as the road are packed sand, but plenty hard enough to drive on. The campground doesn’t accept mail and anything arriving USPS is rejected and can be picked up at the post office in Earp. UPS & FedEx are delivered right to your site. The other interesting thing about the campground is the number of wild burros that visit the campground daily looking for handouts.
Nearby is Parker Dam, the Blue Water Casino, and the Desert Bar. The Desert Bar is a bar that has no outside sources of electricity or water and can only be reached by a five-mile-long dirt road, not recommended for cars. If you get the chance, it’s worth the drive. Also, Emerald Cove is within an hour of Lake Havasu City and the town of Quartzsite which is the place to be in January if you’re an RV’r. We enjoyed the park, but it probably wasn’t our favorite. Though I’m sure that we will revisit it someday in the future.

RV camping on the parker strip and the history of Emerald Cove Resort started as nothing more than a dream and a handful of full hookup RV sites. The hope was that if we built a resort on the shore of the Colorado River that families would come to visit,  fall in love, and want to return over and over. It was a dream. In fact, it was a real RV ” if you build it they will come” story.

We opened the gates at Emerald Cove Resort in 1982 with a few full hookup RV sites, a boat launch and a nicely manicured beach. We planted some palm trees and put up a sign that said: “free camping stop here.” And boy did they ever. City folks that wanted a quick get away from the hustle and bustle of their busy lives and folks from up north that were freezing wanted a nice place to stay in the sunshine for the winter.

As the years passed we grew. We put in swimming poolsrecreation buildingsconvenience stores, rentals for your guest and miniature golf courses. With every passing season, Emerald Cove Resort improved. Today we are nearly 800 sites on the most beautiful and desirable section of the Colorado River. With the only mile of sandy beach as far as the eye can see.  We pride ourselves on our five-star rating and work diligently to provide exemplary customer service.

How does something like this happen? We decided what we wanted and we never lost sight of the original goal. From the beginning, our dream was that Emerald Cove Resort would be an easy, secure, affordable getaway for families that cherish the RV lifestyle. Come see us, where life just keeps getting better…
