Where We Are Now

We landed this afternoon at Ely KOA Journey, pretty much right in the middle of Nevada, elevation, 6500 ft. This is just a stop-over for a night, but it really is a nice campground. We plan to drive around this after and check out the town.

Where to Next

From here we're heading north to Idaho. Our first stop is a place called Anderson Camp. We plan to spend a couple of days there so we can check out Shoshone Falls and what's left of Twin Falls

An Annual Site
This is what happens when annual sites go unchecked for too long. Eventually the park may all look like this.
A campground with its own bar
The Laundromat
We didn't take advantage of this, but it is nice to have one
The Pool
We didn't get the chance to check it out.
The inside of the bar
We didn't get to see this while we were visiting, but I found a picture just see what it was like.

Our Visit

The plan was to stop at Desert Springs and leave Jackie and crew here while I ran the new car down to Hesperia to have the new “tow car shield” custom fitted. Well, it didn’t work out that way.

Desert Springs on the map burned

The day prior we had a new brace for towing installed on the new car and things didn’t go so well.  They order a Blue Ox brace instead of a Road Master brace (to match my tow bar).  To cover up their error, they claimed that Road Master didn’t make a brace for the Fusion (they do) and when all the parts came in, the conversion kit from Blue Ox to Road Master was not shipped and had to be overnighted.  So, the missing parts including the wiring harness wouldn’t arrive until the day we planned to leave Las Vegas.  After I called a Road Master specialist, we found that a few key elements to towing were also not done.  So, we couldn’t tow the car.  In frustration, we gave up and just left.  It was after four and it left us both with a long drive across the desert, putting us here well after dark.
Arriving late as we did, we paid by the honor system and picked out a site for the night in the dark.  In the morning we walked around the campground and found it to be okay for an overnight visit, but there are a few “homesteaders” living there that really need to clean up their spaces.  I’m not sure why the park management isn’t more proactive in keeping the park looking nice.  There is a nice fishing pond, a pool, a laundry, a bar, and apparently a disc golf course of some sort.  (as there was a basket in our site) The campground is just a mile off the freeway and served its purpose as a quick overnight stay for $30.
